1. Translation Zone: Experiments in art and language – the sounds of Mandarin

The project is supported by Centre for Enhancement of Learning and Teaching‘s (CELT) OpportUNIty initiative that enables students to work as Student Academic Partners (SAP) in partnership with university staff upon a range of projects that strengthens the University and enhance student attributes.
I am working with a transdisciplinary team of Post Graduate and PHD students at BCU from China , Taiwan, Israel and America who are studying at the Conservatoire, Fine Art and Design school to develop an experimental sound work based on the sounds of Pinyin.
Anqi Chan, Daniel Galbreath, Jenny Kung, Yu-San Shen and Soul Zisso.
Stage 1 – research:
We have been listening, learning and analysing the sounds of pinyin.
Our next step is consider how to develop these sounds into a score to be spoken and performed.
